David Beckham's Hall of Shame

David Beckham's sending-off in the closing moments of Paris St Germain's match on Sunday night saw him earn headlines across the world for all the wrong reasons.

David Beckham's Hall of Shame

Considering that "Goldenballs" is usually held in the sort of reverence usually reserved for the Queen Mother, it was actually quite refreshing to see Beckham as a bad boy for a change.

But it's not the first time that the former Manchester United and Real Madrid superstar has had his reputation tarnished.

Here's our pick of the worst moments of Beckham's career, on and off the field - though it has to be said, even at the worst of times he still managed to have perfect hair throughout.

June 1998

Beckham becomes a national figure of hatred after a petulant kick at Diego Simeone during a World Cup match against Argentina in France. The kick earned him a red card and helped England out of the tournament on penalties.

June 2000

Beckham finds himself in hot water after England's defeat to Portugal at the European Championship. Becks is seen to give England supporters the finger after being the victim of the what the FA called: "disgusting, foul-mouthed abuse."

February 2003

Alex Ferguson kicks a boot at Beckham during a post-match rant in the dressing room following a defeat. Beckham had to be restrained by team-mates even as blood poured from his head, as he wrote in his autobiography:

"I went for the gaffer. I don't know if I've ever lost control like that in my life before. A couple of the lads stood up. I was grabbed by Giggsy first, then by Gary (Neville) and Ruud van Nistelrooy. Suddenly, it was like some mad scene out of a gangster movie."

October 2003

Beckham slips over while taking a first-half penalty in England's crucial Euro 2004 qualifier against Turkey in Istanbul.

His miss also prompted opponent Alpay Ozalana to taunt him with a poke in the face as the players went off at half-time, though England recovered to win and qualify in any case.

April 2004

Beckham's 'family man' image tarnished for good by allegations that he had a long-running affair with his PA, Rebecca Loos.

August 2009

Beckham is booed off the field during a match against Seattle when a tackle on Sounders midfielder Peter Vagenas in the 17th minute saw him see red. "I've never gone into a tackle wanting to hurt someone. The referee saw it differently," says Beckham.

June 2010

The FA makes an official complaint to FIFA after a fan gets past security and confronts Beckham after England's 0-0 with Algeria. Beckham is only there as an low level assistant to manager Fabio Capello but is still the target of the fan's tongue lashing.

February 2013

H&M are forced to admit that they used a body double in a Beckham television advert directed by Guy Ritchie. "David was very involved in the advert including doing most of the stunts. Due to the tightness of his schedule a body double was used in smaller parts of the video," an H&M spokesman says.

March 2013

Beckham crashes to earth in China, slipping over while demonstrating his technique during a PR display.
